In Loving Memory

Patricia Nita Thompson

Much loved wife and mother

Nita was a very kind, generous and giving person. An excellent cook, she loved birthdays and special occasions. She was a great animal lover and enjoyed trips to the countryside and to the sea (where memorial trees will be planted in her memory)

Her working life was spent looking after others, first as Deputy Matron at Rowden House Children’s Home in Frome and then at the Royal United Hospital, Bath.

She loved reciting poetry, especially verses learned at Stonar School and this is one of her favourites:

Leisure by WH Davies

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.

No time to turn at Beauty’s glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.

No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.

A poor life this is if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
